  • 3 Life Lessons Moving to London Taught Me

Moving to a different country or city is a daunting feat yet one I wanted to do for a long time…and it is an incredible challenge. Scratch that, it’s an incredibly REWARDING challenge. It pulls you out of your comfort zone and plunges you into an exciting unknown where you really dont know what exactly to expect. It triggers exponential personal growth and you learn so much about yourself, the new place you’re in as you move through one exhilarating moment to an impossible one. Moving to London was always a dream for me and hands down of the best decisions to date. So I thought I would throw a few of my top little lessons learned on here:

Every Problem Will Have a Solution and You Can Handle It

Moving to a different country will make you feel like you are alone in a lot of problems. We had small issues of not having internet in our apartment for the first month, not being able to get bank accounts quickly and the list may seem trivial but it goes on and on. At the time, all those problems felt like they were the end of the world. A lot of hand wringing and semi panic attacks and stress later, the pieces started to fall in place and we realized oh…wait a second…we’re done? Yup…it all got done. Fast forward to the day last month, when we had 48 hours to pack up our lives and jump on a plane, we never felt that dread or panic because we knew it will get done in some way shape or form. Our time had taught us that almost everything had some form of a solution, so why panic?

    Change is Really Truly Good

I have always had a strong relationship with change. I’ve craved it almost constantly. So moving abroad was the best kind of change I needed in my early twenties. The change in environment for me at a personal level was so necessary at the time where I was just super bored with a job I didn’t like and an environment that didn’t inspire me. Moving helped me realize what kind of career I wanted to pursue, what kind of life I wanted long term and the travel did even more wonders for that clarity. Sometimes when one thinks of change, it feels so scary. To move into the unknown isn’t easy and it definitely wasn’t for me either. But trust me when I say, the change will allow you to grow into a much stronger and independent person. Comfort zones really are most definitely meant to be broken.

The Fear Is In Your Head

‘What if I miss home too much?’, ‘What if I can’t find a job’, ‘What if I get lonely’…and so many more questions popped up in my head when we were moving. I totally psyched myself out by asking all these hypothetical questions and feeling panicked but very soon realized that you worst fear is only as good as your determination to overcome that fear. So long as you are absolutely determined to conquer that ‘what if’ in your head, it’s all going to be fine and it will all work out. The key is really to not let it get to you. If you’re lucky, you can turn that fear into drive and build something amazing for yourself.
