The age of social media has turned me into a standard gram addicted little psycho endlessly scrolling through feeds. Even though the content I absorb is inspiring, over the last little while I chose to return to books about fashion and style for more inspiration. Just sitting outside with a good mood elevating book can turn the summer evening into so much more. Here are some of my absolute recent faves:
How to be Parisian Wherever You Are by Berest, Maigret, Diwan, & MasĀ
How to be Parisian Wherever You Are is a beautifully written book about fashion and style by four very clever women that capture what it means to be a Parisian woman anywhere you are. We see their take on beauty, skincare, culture and stylish secrets as they paint a picture of a fashionable woman. I swear, you feel chicer by the sentence you read. Buy it here.
Capture Your Style by Aimee Song
I find Capture Your Style to be now somewhat of an oldie but goodie book written by Aimee Song. I chalk up a lot of what I have learned about where to start on curating an interesting Instagram story and content to this book. What makes this stand out is really not just about how to focus on anything but the photography and story telling aspect of using Instagram. It teaches identifying photography opportunities, color designs, outfit orientations, flatlays and even perfecting selfies. Song knows her shit and you can really learn a lot from her pretty pink book. Buy it here.
Lessons from Madame Chic by Jennifer Scott
I came across Lessons from Madame Chic for the first time last summer and have enjoyed it so much I ended up reading it just recently once again. It’s a captivating guide for channelling a Parisian woman’s style in a very casual world, especially in North America where sweatpants are a girl’s best friend on a Sunday afternoon. I love the personal anecdotes that Jennifer Scott (see her blog here) adds in as she pulls the reader into the book describing what she learned while living in Paris as an exchange student. The lessons that you take away from the book are defining in helping you to just take a little bit more pleasure in your daily styling activities. Buy it here.
At Home with Madame Chic by Jennifer Scott
At Home with Madame Chic another very recent purchase that I have been reading over the last week out on the sunny patio. Since I enjoyed reading Scott’s last book so much, it came as no surprise that this one was just as good! She takes us through making small things like chores more interesting by listening to French music, practicing the art of femininity even when just at home and taking care of boring spaces in your home and bringing them to life. An excellent read, and especially valid in these times of being in lockdown at home! Buy it here.
That about wraps up all my picks on books about fashion and style! If you are looking for interesting reads on the topics, these would be absolutely great picks to get started and really inspire you for whatever you are looking to do!
