On our third day in Austria, we decided to take a day trip from Vienna to Salzburg. We took a train into Salzburg Hbf and spent the entire day walking around the city and exploring some of the sites as we made our way through this picturesque city.
A short walk away from the train station, we came across the Mirabell Gardens which as usual were so pretty as are all Austrian Palace gardens we had seen in Vienna. We walked through the main shopping area, picked up the cutest souveniers and came across the Salzburg Cathedral which was a beauty in itself.
The highlight of our day was getting up to Hohensalzburg Fortress which is a centuries old Fortress sitting at the top of a hill. The views were straight out of a postcard. Walking from one side of fortress to the other, we were treated by two very different views. One being mountains hidden behind beautiful fog and clouds and the other side was a panoramic view of the city of Salzburg. Quite literally takes your breathe away and should be on top of your visit list if you’re planning even a few hours in Salzburg.
