  • How to Spend 4 Days in Switzerland

Switzerland has been one of my favorite European destinations for a few years now. This year, we decided to return after a few years (last post here) and have a more relaxed paced couple of days in the Swiss Alps to celebrate my partner’s birthday.

    How to Get Around Switzerland

Switzerland is home to one of the best connected public transport systems in Europe. Trains, buses and gondolas are all completely and totally connected keeping all major tourist destinations in mind. Having said that, I personally always find that renting a car gives one the best and most complete amount of control over time especially on a short holiday. If you are dependent on the public transport, it turns into mostly running for trains, holding your breathe for the perfect bus schedule and at times not being able to turn the day around and do a complete 180 degree of the planned itinerary. We decided to rent a car from Zurich which was perfect because we were able to drive to our own pace and schedule, without having to worry about moving around with luggage and stopping at scenic spots along the way. Parking in Switzerland is extremely easy, which made this the perfect decision and I would highly recommend the same for a shorter trip in the region. For 4 days in Switzerland, a car is probably the best approach for the most wholesome trip.

Things to Do during 4 Days in Switzerland

    • Paragliding in Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken (reservations book out fast, so be sure to have your spot reserved well in advance)
    • Visit the Top of Europe – Jungfraujoch (if you plan on doing more than one attraction, it’s probably good to buy the Top of Europe pass)
    • Visit the Top of Interlaken – Harder Kulm
    • Take a walk around Lake Blausee (best to go on a sunny day)
    • Go along on the Longest Toboggan in Switzerland on Mount Pilatus
    • Views of Lucerne from Mount Pilatus
    • Town of Lucerne
    • Lunch in the Grindelwald Village
    • Walk around Lauterbrunnen Village
    • Gelmerbahn (the steepest 106% funicular in Europe) and Gelmersee Mountaintop Lake (you will definitely require a car to be able to do this)
    • Drive and stop along the blues of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun

Where to Stay in the Jungfrau Region

Having visited the area previously, my personal choice to stay in the region for the second time was in Grindelwald. We chose to stay at Bergwelt Grindelwald, a beautiful and modern hotel located in the heart of the village with spectactular views of the Eiger Mountain whilst being stones throw away from the village.

It was also an excellent choice for a more relaxing trip as the hotel was fully kitted out with a pool, spa and outdoor hot tub with Swiss Alp views.
