Everyone should spend a weekend in Prague, because yes, it’s THAT amazing.
Back in the tail end of summer, we decided to book tickets to go and explore the Christmas Markets of Prague. Full of rich and beautiful architecture, delicious desserts around every corner and of course, the iconic Charles Bridge, this capital has been on my radar since the Gossip Girl days!
How Much Time to Spend in Prague
Spending a weekend in Prague was literally something out of a fairy tale. I had seen and read that most people like to spend 3 days in Prague, but honestly I found that even in two days, we saw a LOT of the city! Combined with the fact that we just got crazy lucky with the weather over the weekend, the beautiful capital of Czech Republic is definitely one of my favorite European destinations. I can almost guarantee that anyone who goes here, will instantaneously fall in love.
Where to Stay
We arrived super late at PRG Praha Airport, took an Uber into the city and stayed at the Myo Wenceslas Hotel. The hotel was perfectly positioned right next to the Old Town and the Wenceslas Square. This made getting around super easy and we managed to make best out of our time by literally walking around the entire city. We didn’t even have to go on any local transport because everything we wanted to see was within walking distance!
Finding and book accommodation did prove to be a little more challenging than I expected. For some reason, when trying to find a place to stay, I could only see weird and overly expensive yet average Airbnbs. So to make things easier, I decided that a hotel would be the best option. The city is made up of many different districts and through research, I knew the best place to stay would be in Prague 1. The city is massive and sprawls across the bridge into even another part of old town. Being in Praha 1 so you can actually step out on the street and be in the middle of it all!
What to See in Prague In 2 Days
The Old Town of Prague has such a charming olden vibe about it (duh). The cobbled streets, street musicians, horse chariots and the ringing of the clock was so heart warmingly gorgeous. Around this time of the year, it was even MORE charming with the gorgeous Christmas Tree and fairy lights across the square. After Slovenia (see travel blog post here), this was definitely up there in my favourites list.
Right in the heart of Old Town Prague was one of my top places to visit: Klemenitinum Praha. The complex is host to one of the most beautiful Baroque Library in the world. With gold grandeur encapsulating every inch of the pillars and walls, shelves lined with some of the oldest books in the world, there was an aura of undeniable beauty as soon as you took it all in.
Sadly, we weren’t actually allowed to go inside the library as the humidity can ruin the books and the flash photography can mess with the painting colors. But we did manage to take in the beauty of it all by inching as close as we possibly could!
We also got to climb up the Astronomical Tower and marvel in the panoramic views of the entire city which was simply incredible. You do have to take the guided tour of the Kleminitum as it is not open for general public. The total tour took about an hour.
What to Eat…Trdelnik!
The rest of our time was spent walking around the markets, popping in and out of small boutique shops and of course enjoyed the classic Prague specialty dessert called Trdelnik. This dessert is literally around every corner and tastes SO GOOD. It’s basically a kind of sweet pasty rolled around in sugar (kinda like a Churro but bigger) and then you can fill it up with chocolates and ice cream! Definitely a shareable type of dessert though because they are HUGE.
Overall, I absolutely loved the Old Town of Prague and do think it would be a really cool destination to return to with family in the summer time! Man, as I write this, I again feel so lucky to be living in London and being able to experience another beautiful European country #BLESSED.
Do add spending a weekend in Prague on your checklist, it will not disappoint!
