Let’s talk toners today, starting with the most basic question:
What is a toner?
Toners are what should be the base of your skincare and the first product you apply after cleansing. It’s a super fast acting product that (depending on your need) can be used for hydration, exfoliation and removing any leftover makeup residue (+ dead skin cells) from your skin. Having never used toners regularly, I would have to say that this Ole toner is my first one that I actively use. I can’t believe I didn’t know the wonders an exfoliating toner could have done for my skin.
When should you apply a toner?
Easy. Right after you watch your face or finish your cleansing routine. Your skin is soft, and will absorb the product much more easily. This article on Allure gives more deets that can be very helpful on all things toners.
The main ingredient that this product boasts is high potency of AHAs. AHA (aka Alpha Hydroxy Acid) is a skincare staple and the MVP in many of the game changing and acid heavy skincare products that we use (mainly glycolic and lactic). They help in fighting against ageing and texture as well as elasticity of the skin. These are your BFFs and I can’t believe I didn’t educate myself on the importance of this ingredient a few years ago.
Which toner works best for me?
I personally find that this particular toner does a great job really getting in my pores in terms of daily exfoliation and skincare prep. During the week, I barely get any time for myself and to give my skin the extra TLC. Introducing this in my nightly routine has really helped to keep my skin clear and unclogged throughout the week. This particular one is also supposed to target ‘dark spots’ and while I don’t think it quite delivers on that particular promise, it does a good job of helping with the glow and even skin tone (creds to the AHAs obv). While this is my personal pick, I do think that any good exfoliating toner would do an excellent job of kick starting the absorption levels of your skincare.
