This blog post is long overdue since it’s November and it’s been sitting in my drafts for MONTHS…considering I took this Canadian getaway back in August! Still, better late than never!
If you’re looking for a cute getaway in Ontario, especially in the summertime, Prince Edward County is the absolute best place for a weekend escape. Filled with picturesque vineyards which give you all the French vibes, cute little eateries, farms and charming streets of the little towns scattered in the area, PEC is the perfect escape from the monotony of the city life.
How to Get to Prince Edward County
‘The County’ as it is also affectionately known as, is found just a 2 hour drive from Toronto. Bake in some extra time for rush hour traffic if leaving on a Friday evening and make your way over. The best way to get there would definitely be by car. It’s because getting around the vineyards, and generally the area is spread far apart. So for a proper and easy experience, take that car over.
Where to Stay
We booked the cutest little AirBnB (linked here) which I would absolutely recommend because it was the perfect location in Wellington for a group of six people to stay in. Would recommend a 10/10 for being fully stocked and prepped for us.
Where to Eat and Do in Prince Edward County
There are cute eateries all across the area. We had dinner on our first night at East and Main Bistro which is one of the most popular spots and just so happened to be right outside our AirBnB and so delicious. We also went to the very popular Drake Devonshire Inn for brunch and took in the patio vibes with the water front views. Farm fresh and delicious ingredients galore at the cutest little restaurant here. If in the mood for spicy tacos, La Condesa was the cutest little place with single servings of tacos to fill up on.
Spend your day hopping between wineries and farms. Some of the prettiest ones we went to were Sandbanks Winery and Closson Baker Winery. Such instagrammable, beautiful and colorful spots to sit on the patio and grab a drink and food on.
If you’re into Lavender Fields, look no further than the Prince Edward County Lavender Farm in Hillier. Its also home to a lavender shop and best visited in July!
On our last evening, we ended up going to West Lake and renting a boat to take into the water for watching the sunset. I would highly recommend this because it was the perfect way to end the day although do make sure someone in your group knows how to maneuver a boat! They only require a driving license, no boating certification required!
Overall, Prince Edward County is one of the best getaway ideas from Toronto that is within a 2 hour drive!
